What are the Georgia CLE Rules?
In Georgia, all active, non-exempts members who aren’t part of the Transition into Law Practice Program must complete Georgia MCLE. As part of the Georgia CLE Rules require that each attorney to complete a minimum of 12 CLE hours including 1 ethics hour, 1 professionalism hour and trial attorneys are required to complete 3 trial hours.
The Georgia CLE Annual Report, which shows all CLE hours taken for the previous year and any fees owed, is sent to all active members in January. Attorney Credits reports completed Georgia CLE every Thursday, ensuring that your records stay up to date.
If you are deficient in your CLE the Georgia CLE Rules require the State Bar of Georgia to send you an annual report, informing you of any additional CLE hours you may need to complete.
Failure to comply with Mandatory Georgia CLE?
If you fail to comply with the Georgia CLE Rules and remain noncompliant, the Supreme Court of Georgia will be notified, and it may enter an order, including suspending your ability to practice law until you correct the deficiency and pay any penalty fees. The late fee starts at $100 and increases to $150 if you don’t address it quickly. Reinstatement fees begin at $500. Make sure you complete your MCLE on time.
