All active Mississippi attorneys are required to complete a minimum of 12 CLE hours, including 1 hour of ethics during each annual compliance period. The deadline to complete MS CLE hours is July 31 of each year and must be reported to the Mississippi Commission on the CLE Annual Report Statement by August 15. The CLE Annual Report Statement is mailed to attorneys by June of each year and will show any CLE an attorney has completed during the current CLE cycle.
If you are a newly admitted attorney in MS you are required to complete an approved new-lawyer program by the end of the second CLE year occurring after your date of admission. This new-lawyer program is comprised of 12 hours of CLE which included 6 hours of basic skills and 6 hours of ethics/professionalism. Completing this program satisfies newly admitted CLE requirements for the year of admission and the next succeeding CLE cycle.
If you are new to Mississippi but have been practicing elsewhere for over 5 years you may be able to skip the 6-hour basic portion of the newly admitted CLE requirement but will still need to complete 6 hours of ethics/professionalism from the course. However, you will need to submit an affidavit form.
