Pending approval by the Board of Trustees the new California MCLE compliance dates are changing to March. The attorney renewal cycle will open February 1, 2025, and close March 30, 2025. The new California MCLE compliance dates will apply to the current compliance cycle and all future MCLE compliance cycles.
MCLE Compliance Cycle Date Changes
Last names A-G:
Extended to a single 38-month cycle ending March 29, 2025. Reporting deadline March 20,2025.
Last names H-M:
Extended to a single 38-month cycle ending March 29, 2027. Reporting deadline March 30, 2027.
Last names N-Z:
Extended to a single 38-month cycle ending March 29, 2026. Reporting deadline March 30, 2026.
After the single 38-month cycle, each group will return to a standard 36-month cycle starting March 30 of their respective compliance year.
The new dates appear to be set, though the Board of Trustees must approve them in their upcoming November 14-15 meeting. Total fees for active attorneys will increase from $510 to $598.
Total fees for inactive attorneys will increase from $182.40 to $205.
You must switch from active to inactive by December 1, 2024 with an effective date on or before December 31, 2024.
Annual CTAPP compliance (Client Trust Account Protection Program) must be completed by March 30.
Temporary bar cards (needed for courts and jails) will be available since the change in the renewal cycle will create a gap. More information will follow from the bar in regards to temporary cards.
