Experienced Attorney Requirement Effective July 1, 2023
All experienced attorneys must complete a minimum of 24 total credit hours during each biennial reporting cycle. Of the 24 hours at least 4 credit hours are required in ethics or professionalism, at least 1 credit hour in diversity, inclusion and elimination of bias and at least 1 credit hour in cybersecurity.

What is an “experienced attorney”?
An experienced attorney is an attorney that has been admitted to the NY Bar for more than two years.
When Is MY CLE Due?
Your CLE compliance is due within 30 days after your birthday on alternate years. If you were admitted before January 1, 1982, or in an even year, then you will register in even-number years. If you were admitted in an odd-numbered year after 1982, then you will register in odd-numbered years.
Newly Admitted Attorney Requirements Effective July 1, 2023
What is a “newly admitted attorney”?
Attorneys admitted to the NY Bar for two years or less are considered newly admitted attorneys. If you were practicing law in another state for 5 of the last 7 years preceding admission to the New York Bar, you will be considered an experienced attorney.
Within the first 2 years of admission to the bar, each newly admitted attorney is required to complete a minimum of 32 credit hours (16 credit hours each year).
Year 1: 7 credit hours of law practice management, areas of professional practice, or cybersecurity. 6 credit hours of skills and 3 credit hours of ethics and professionalism.
Year 2: 7 credit hours of law practice management, areas of professional practice, or cybersecurity. 6 credit hours of skills and 3 credit hours of ethics and professionalism.
As part of the 32 required credit hours, at least 1 must be in cybersecurity.
