Minnesota admitted attorneys are required to complete their CLE compliance requirements every three years. The Minnesota CLE requirement is a minimum of 45 credit hours. Of those 45 credit hours a minimum of 3 hours of ethics, 2 hours of elimination of bias, and 1 hour of mental health & substance abuse are required each compliance cycle. All 45 credit hours can be taken on demand through Attorney Credits’ website.
Minnesota’s compliance deadline is June 30, with a reporting deadline of August 31. Minnesota attorneys must report their completion of their CLE requirements through Minnesota Board of CLE’s OASIS website, which is found here: oasis.cle.mn.gov/Account/Login?ReturnUrl=%2F
Minnesota attorneys are assigned to one of three reporting compliance cycles. Attorneys can find which cycle they are assigned to in the OASIS system by searching for your name in MARS.
- Category 1: July 1, 2021 to June 30, 2024, July 1, 2024 to June 30, 2027
- Category 2: July 1, 2022 to June 30, 2025, July 1, 2025 to June 30, 2028
- Category 3: July 1, 2023 to June 30, 2026, July 1, 2026 to June 30, 2029
If you report your CLE after the August 31 deadline Minnesota will charge you a $75 late fee. If you are unable to report before the August 31 deadline you must request an extension, which can be done through OASIS. Asking for an extension will keep your license in good standing during your extension period.
Minnesota doesn’t allow any carryover, so completing more than 45 Minnesota CLE credit hours during your compliance cycle doesn’t make sense.
