Just in case you forgot what the Illinois CLE requirements and rules regarding reporting are, here is a short recap for you. With the 2024 deadline only a few months away, it’s time to get a jump start on your IL CLE.
Illinois CLE Details
The Illinois CLE requirements for the 2022-2024 reporting period are 30 total CLE credit hours. Of these 30, you must complete a minimum of 4 professional responsibility hours and at least 1 credit hour of mental health/substance abuse, and at least 1 credit hour of diversity and inclusion.
The Illinois reporting period is two years from July 1 to June 30 starting and ending in even-numbered years for those with A-M last names and starting and ending in odd-numbered years for those with N-Z last names. You must complete your CLE by 11:59 PM Central Time on June 30 of your reporting cycle and have your credits reported by 11:59 PM Central Time on July 31. For attorneys admitted before June 30, 2006, your last name on the Master Roll sets your reporting group. If you were sworn in after July 1, 2006, your last name on your bar admission date sets your reporting group. Your reporting group doesn’t change even if you name does.
Attorney Credits is an Illinois Approved Provider
As an Illinois Approved Provider, all Attorney Credits Illinois courses are approved for IL CLE Credit, and we report your completed courses to the Illinois MCLE Board twice a month. Make sure you have entered your proper ARDC (Attorney Registration and Disciplinary Commission) number on our website where it asks for your Illinois Bar Number. You should also double check the Board’s website to make sure that your credits have been properly submitted.
Illinois attorneys no longer need to report compliance to the MCLE Board. Beginning with your 2022-2024 reporting period your online, “My MCLE” transcript is your report for your two-year reporting cycle. Your compliance is determined by your transcript, and if you complete all your credits before the deadline you don’t need to do anything else. However, if you haven’t completed your CLE by the deadline you need to request a grace period extension on the MCLE Board’s website and pay the $100 late fee by July 31. Asking for a grace period and paying the $100 buys you a grace period until October 31, which must be posted to your transcript no later than November 30. Failing to request the grace period will result in a $250 late fee assessment.
